Hyundai Goodwill Carnival welcomes the world to South Africa

hyundai_1.jpgLess than a week before kick-off and more than 2000 soccer fans joined in the festivities as the international Hyundai Goodwill Ball Road Shows came to an end in Johannesburg in Sandton on Saturday 5th June.

To welcome the world to South Africa and to celebrate the return of the giant goodwill balls, the public experienced a jam-packed day of free festivities right in the heart of Sandton. The epic street parade took over the streets of Sandton with more than 600 dazzling street performers igniting football fever and ‘gees’ in the South African public and visitors to the city.

Zulu dancers, drum majorettes and stilt walkers were just some of the performers that travelled from the corner of Rivonia and Katherine in Sandton to Hyundai Park at Mushroom Farm Park. Here, popular South African personality Elana Afrika, hosted the party in the park while multiple SAMA award winners Watershed and Lira entertained the crowds. Deputy Minister of Sport and Recreation, Mr Gert Oosthuizen was present at the event. “Thank you to Hyundai and the epic Goodwill Ball Road Show, you have taken it to every corner of the country and helped ignite passion and excitement in football fans.”

Fans were able to enjoy both national team games on open air screens and three lucky football fans even won 2010 FIFA World Cup™ tickets. “The Goodwill Ball Road Show has been an indication that no matter where we live, what we do, or who we are, we are all united behind this massive sporting event, and we believe that a street parade is the perfect way to celebrate the ball’s epic tour,” said CEO of Hyundai South Africa, Alan Ross.

The South African Hyundai Goodwill Ball has been on a whirlwind tour of the country since the end of January, spreading football fever and tickets across the nation. From famous faces, including Tokyo Sexwale, Dr. Danny Jordaan, Jomo Somo, Gareth Cliff, Vanessa Haywood and Elana Afrika to brides, cheerleaders and men in ‘Borat’ costumes  – wherever the ball has been, South Africa’s rainbow nation has come out to show their support and inscribe their message on the ball.

As official transportation partner of FIFA, Hyundai has a number of sponsored initiatives set to enhance the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ experience. There will be Hyundai Fan Parks in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town for the public to enjoy with exciting initiatives such as ‘Fan of The Match’ and ‘The Fan Van”. Hyundai has an eleven year strong relationship with FIFA and will continue their partnership with FIFA until 2014.
